Yay! Natasha had her baby! I had a strong feeling yesterday that she was having it, then I noticed she didn't log in on myspace (I know, a bit stalker-ish) and that's when I figured I'd hear something soon. And it was a boy - thank goodness- I had a feeling it would be a boy all along. His name is Ephraim Asher, born Sep.4 at 12:01pm, 7lbs, 12oz, 20in. She, Cameran, and Ephraim all at Dominican Hospital right now.

lymph nodes My ears have been hurting on and off. Well, before I hop on a plane, I decided to see the doctor about it. What really pushed me to go were the painful lumps in my neck. Apparently they're lymph nodes. My ears are fine and so the doctor is guessing that the swollen lymph nodes are the end of the infection. I have no fever or anything, so all I need to do is put heat on my neck four times a day. If the swelling doesn't go down in two weeks or I get more, I need to see the doctor again. I'm sure they'll go away soon. Didn't realize that swollen lymph nodes could be painful, but they do hurt.

OW My ear is KILLING me. I just took to Advil Liquid gelcaps. My ears have ben hurting for a while, but now it feels like someone's stabbing my right ear drum. I really wish it was 9am so I could go to Urgent Care. Well... just 8 more hours. I'm gonna take some meds to help me sleep.
[edit] Well, I put warmth on it and took a trazodone (to sleep). I slept till noon. It doesn't hurt too much right now, so I'm just gonna wait it out and if it hurts again, I may go to Urgent Care if it starts to hurt more again. I just can't have an ear infection by the 15th when I fly. I heard that's bad for it. I'm using Similasan right now.

Yes! I finally have my flight to New York booked! I am flying out from San Francisco on August 15th at 1:15pm and arriving in JFK airport at 9:50pm. Elizabeth flies in from London into JFK at 10:30pm. We'll meet up and her parents will pick us up. I'll get to hang out with her family for a couple days and REST and then Elizabeth and I are taking her new car (from her G'ma) across the country back to Cali.! We're gonna camp a few days, see some national parks and whatever else we drive through. I am SO lucky to have such a wonderful opportunity!
I am really getting some great opportunities this year. It's been a hard one for me, personally, but I got to go to Tijuana and help people and now this! Plus, my mom's coming for a visit from July 10-19 WITHOUT DAVE (YAY!) so here's to hoping it won't be stressful!
Me: I'm a bit nervous as I've never gone on a plane by myself. Dad: You do know you won't be the only person on the plane, right?
ha ha!
I am very blessed.

Mexico I don't feel like writing much but the gist is that I went on a mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico. I lived with the other five people I went with in a church we were helping called Buen Pastor (Good Shepherd). I got to know the Pastor, his wife, kids, and others in the neighborhood really well. I really enjoyed it there. And stereotypes SUCK because the people I met were NOT lazy or anything else negative. They were all very good to us and I'm most likely going back to visit and help out again.
See my pictures for, well, the pictures from the trip.

this sucks Malakai has been missing since the 19th :(
I have a terrible cold and I have stuff to do tomorrow that I don't want to miss as it doesn't happen very often - if EVER. I may have to miss the hike and other stuff as I just don't feel well. Last night, I couldn't sleep cos my throat was on fire. I had to eat a popscicle to cool it off. It feels a little better now, but now I have a slight fever and headache. Yuck.
Good news though - I get to babysit Ryan on Tuesday :) (I hope I feel better by then!)

students I have finished up with Omar. He wrote a "book" of poems! Twenty five poems. They're actually pretty good. His sister wanted me to tutor her, but the program was already closed for the school year.
I just finished up yesterday with Alfredo. His mother is going to call my boss and ask how much it would cost to have me tutor privately (as opposed to through No Child Left Behind). So I may continue to tutor him.
I'll be through tutoring Conner on May 1st, but like I said, I may continue to tutor him in exchange for yard work.
Tito just aced his midterm (learning all his multiplication tables) and so he is doing very well.
I will be getting two new students (two girls) next week. I will only have them for a short time as I am finishing up for their previous tutor who's partner has cancer.
I really do feel good about my job. I'm really good at it and I get to see that through my students' results and the fact that they all want me to continue to be their tutor.
I also like that it leaves me most of the day to do all this yard work and clean up around the property. I've also just gotten rid of a lot of furniture from the shed.
I'm excited about an upcoming date: May 19th. I am doing a FREE poetry workshop for kids from 1-5pm at the church. Elizabeth will help me with the younger kids. It will be an introduction to poetry for some and a refresher for others. I'm really excited about it.

yard work I have been doing LOTS of yard work! You must come see! I am tackling the jungle that is the berry vines! They had taken over, but I'm winning :) Also, as I wrote before, the chicken house is down. One of my students, Conner, lives across the street, so I have been having him help me as his "part time job". He's considering continuing to pay for his tutoring by doing yard work.

a fun time at taco bell A couple nights ago, I drove Elizabeth to San Francisco. On the way, we stopped in Palo Alto at the local taco bell. At first, there was no one there. Seriously- we had to wait for someone in the back to notice we were there. I placed my order: a quesadilla, just cheese, no weird stuff. And yes, I said it that way. The guy smiled and pretended to press the button on the cash register for "no weird stuff". It was very cute. We talked and ate then on our way out of the parking lot, Elizabeth went the wrong way and we ended up going through the drive thru. We waited for the person ahead of us to finish their order then, as we drove past the window, we waved at the guy that had previously taken our order! We just laughed. It was actually funnier in person.

she ended up in front of my student's house he's 10 and his sister is 8 and they saw this naked woman. He said he saw blood on her and that she seemed to be drunk.
Officers arrest naked woman in police car
A naked Watsonville woman allegedly took off with a police car early Saturday and then crashed it, Watsonville police reported.
Officers responded about 6:30 a.m. to a complaint of a man and woman arguing in their home on Miles Lane. While an officer was talking to the person who called to complain, Lisa Isidro fled from the house without any clothes, police said.
Another officer tried to detain Isidro, using chemical spray to subdue her. Instead, she jumped into a police car and tried to run over the officer, police said.
The officer fired a shot at Isidro as she drove off at high speed before crashing at Miles Lane and Santa Clara Street, police said.
Isidro tried to escape on foot, but police apprehended her without further incident, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to her right bicep and was treated at Watsonville Hospital.
She was booked on charges of assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, hit and run and stealing a car. Her bail was set at $25,000, police said.

I thought this was really cute: Alfredo (one of my students) was asked to write two sentences on tutoring in the midterm. This is what he wrote (with errors):
The things I like about tutoring Is that Kathy gives me spelling test.
Also the secen thing I like about my tutoring is She never gets angery.
I thought that was great to hear esp. after all his talk about me "torturing" him with spelling tests :)

save the date I'm having a b-day party on March 31. That's really all I know at the moment as Kate and Elizabeth are throwing it for me. It will be a karaoke party in the hall at the church but beyond that - no clue. No one has to sing - Elizabeth and I will do enough of that :) so don't let that intimidate you. I would never force someone to sing.

[Link] | I have FOUR students of my own now. Now I have a file for each of them, need to schedule 20 hours with each student, talk with the parent and teacher of each kid. I LOVE that I can make my own schedule and that I can work for 8 hours a week and make as much as 30 at fedex and as much as a month's worth at Kumon. A degree IS worth something!

I CAN'T HEAR THE VOICES IN MY HEAD RIGHT NOW COS GOD'S TALKING. :) February 8, 2007: I meet with my new boss, Lisa, to discuss potential students tomorrow. I am planning to turn in my letter of resignation to my boss at Kumon as it has become an abusive situation (emotional/mental abuse) squarely on me for (what I feel) are unfounded excuses to be mad at someone.
